logon after screensaver

Bob

I'm using Windows XP Home.

On my Desktop properties Screensaver tab I checked "on resume password
protect." The effect of this is that after the screensaver is on I have to
enter a password to access the computer. But what I really want is for the
Welcome screen to appear so that someone could, for example, use the guest
account without having to enter my password..

I was able to do this with XP Professional but I can't figure out how to do
it with XP Home. I would appreciate any help.

The procedure is the same. Control Panel, User Accounts, Change the way users log on. Enable the Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching.

Then, if you want to allow access to the Guest account, you need to enable it.

I already have the Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching enabled but I
still get the old login screen after a screensave. And the guest account is
enabled. When I reboot I get to the welcome screen. It's only after a
screensave that I get the password login screen.

The procedure is the same. Control Panel, User Accounts, Change the way
users log on. Enable the Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching.

Then, if you want to allow access to the Guest account, you need to enable
it.

Bob,

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Look in the right pane for the values "AllowMultipleTSSessions" and "LogonType". Ensure that both values are set to 1. If not, double click the value that's incorrect and change it to 1.

Additionally, click Start, Run and enter SERVICES.MSC Scroll down the list to Terminal Services and make sure that the Service is Started. The default setting is Manual, as well.
