loging on to a membership account

I'm trying to log on to an account where i'm a member as
i've done many times before, the numbers asked for are
randome numbers and letters of a pre-aranged group of
both.
But windows keeps poping up after i've entered the second
letter asked for saying it dose not recognise as it
should be numbers only which is wrong, how can I stop
this action please?
