Login to XP, logs me out right away

I think that I may have a virus or something with my windows XP installation
(dual boot, now in ME).

When ever I login to Windows XP (Home edition) I see the normal background
screen and I get logged out right away.

Any suggestions on how to remove it? I don't think that I have an Admin
login for the XP installation. Only the one shows up when I start up XP.

FWIW, I fixed it.

I booted into ME and copied the SYSTEM, SECURITY, SAM, DEFAULT and SOFTWARE
backups from the XP drive "System Volume Information\Snapshot directory,
into the C:\Windows\System32\Config directory (renamed to match the original
files) and then booted into Safe Mode and restored from a valid previous
configuration.

I tried following the instruction from the Microsoft site, using the Restore
Console, but I couldn't get XP to complete the boot into Safe mode.

Without the ME boot, it could still be done at the Recover Console prompt,
but it would be a bit harder to find a previous backup in the "System Volume
Information" directory.

Mike,

FYI, it's caused after removing BlazeFind.

Ramesh,

I checked my Windows directory and didn't find the "WSAUPDATER.EXE" file
that the http://www.winxptutor.com/wsaremove.htm article references. I
fixed my problem simply by replacing the Registry with a previous version.

Another variation of the same thing?

Mike,

It may be a variation, but most probably it's caused by the Userinit value only. If you're curious, load the old Software hive and read the contents. (Hint: Use Regedit's Load Hive option, or use "Mitec Registry viewer" from snapfiles.com)
