Login to Windows Messenger

I have having problems logging into Windows Messenger
5.0. When I try I get the following error
messages. "signing into .NET Messenger Service failed
because the password is incorrect or the sign-in-name
does not exist. If you have forgotten your password,
click Help in the main window, and then click Help
Topics." I know my password and sign-in-name are correct
because I created them today in an attempt to correct
this problem. Another error message I get when I try to
login is "An HTTPS or TCP connection could not be made.
Please wait for your net work admistrator to correct
this problem and try again later." I use a home computer
with dial-up. I don't know what the heck this means! The
last message I get is "Signing into Microsoft Exchange
Instant Messaging failed because of a problem connecting
to the service." Would someone please help me out here?
My family is going bonkers because they cannot get on
Windows Messenger!

Hi James, open Windows Messenger, click on Tools then Options from the menu
bar. When the options box comes up, click on the Accounts tab. In the
Accounts section make sure there are no check marks in any of the boxes
except for .NET passport Account. Then click the Connection tab. Is there
anything configured in there? You'll probably want to make sure there is
nothing configured here (default, nothing checked).

Open up Internet Explorer. Click on Tools from the menu bar, choose Internet
Options. When the Internet Options box comes up, choose Advanced from the
tabs. In Advanced, choose "Restore Defaults". Then click OK and then close
that box. Then close Internet Explorer.

Try signing it again. When you sign into your account, make sure you use the
complete email address (ie: (e-mail address removed))

Hope this helps.
