Why won't my computer boot to require me to enter a password in XP? I
have all accounts password protected, even added a boot password in
the bios, but every time I reboot it just starts up no password
required. I appreciate any help you can give me as I'm going through
a nasty breakup and need protection. Thanks!!

What account does it say it is logging into?

What account does it say it is logging into?

I assume it's my main user account. Just in case it isn't, I password
protected the turned off guest account and the aspnet account as
well. The main user/administrator privileges account is the one where
all of my documents write to, etc., correct? That's what I believe is
logging in.

Additionally - how do I find the general administrator account to
assign it a password (in the event I can ever use it!).

Start>Run>control userpasswords2 [enter]

Put a checkmark in "Users must enter a password..."

You might also want to go to the Advanced tab and put a checkmark in
"Require users to press Ctrl-Alt-Del".

Go to the User Accounts applet in Control Panel and disable Fast User
Switching.

If that doesn't work, then there is something else running on the box
resetting your changes, perhaps put there by the person from whom you
need protection. Either do a clean-install of Windows or take it to a
professional computer repair shop for diagnosis and secure setup. This
will not be your local version of BigStoreUSA.

Malke gave you the info on how to set up the login to require a password.
For the built in Administrator account, if you have XP Home then login to
safe mode, it will appear on the Welcome Screen. You should assign a strong
password to it and set it aside, to use if something corrupts the normal
account that has admin privileges.

To boot into safe mode restart the computer, as the BIOS splash screen
disappears, repeatedly tap the F8 key until the Advance Options menu
appears. Highlight Safe Mode and press enter.

Malke! This worked!! Thanks so very much. Hopefully I can prevent
further file loss from what he's already stolen. I hate breakups, but
love the help I can get on the net!!

Glad to hear you got things sorted. Thanks for taking the time to let me
know. Take care, now.
