Logical Disk Manager problems...

We really need some way in our department to give Users (in the Users
group) access to change their own drive letter because of the extremely
annoying USB stick problem in XP (using SP2).

Just through some testing, I'm pretty much to the point where I've
given FULL CONTROL to all services that are dependent or are
dependencies to the Users group.

I STILL keep getting "You do not have access rights to Logical Disk
Manager on %computername%"

Even after trying the many things from other members here, absolutely
nothing's worked.

Sending a LAN admin to the workstation everytime another user comes up
to the workstation with a new stick in another port is not an option.

THanks.

I am not sure this will help but if you have not done so yet try tweaking
the user right for perform volume maintenance tasks to include users, and
possibly the security option for devices: allowed to format and eject
removable media to include interactive users on the domain workstation which
can be checked and possibly changed via Local Security Policy. It is also
best to use USB drives that use signed drivers that can do server side
installation for the user. If nothing helps it may be worthwhile trying to
have support fix the problem via Remote Desktop rather than having to visit
the workstation. --- Steve

If you have problems with drive letter assingments
for USB drives then my 'USB drive letter manager'
should be able to solve them.

It's a small Win32 service that handle the remounting
in the background without user interaction. Because
it's a service it has the required previleges and
there is no need to give the user these previleges.

Without configuration it detects conficts with
letters of network shares and assingns the next letter
that is really availlable. Or you configure a
list of new default letters to get identical letters
for USB drives on all computers.

The service can be easily installed remote without
user interaction.
