log on Windows 2000

I recently received an IBM 300PL which some one had
refurbished. After makeing all the connections, I reach a
point where the Windows 2000 screen appears. However it
asks me for a User ID, which already shows a name, and
for a password. I type a ramdom password and the screen
shows LOGON MESSAGE The system could not log you on. Make
sure your USER name and DOMAIN are correct. I have no
idea what they are. How can I go about loging on and
getting into the system. PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU
 
You need to ask the person you received the machine from for the password or
reinstall. If you do an upgrade it will keep the same user accounts and you
will still not be able to login.
