Hopefully someone will be able to help me with this. Bruce, PA Bear, Ron
Badour, and Kelly have helped me in the past but I don't see any responses
from them to others' questions. I am using XP Pro SP3. Previously when I
booted up my computer, it would go straight to my desktop without going to a
screen that asked me to click on my user name.
I recently did my windows updates and after they were installed subsequent
bootups would not take me to the desktop, but to the click on a user screen.
I preferred the other way so I searched tweaks on Kelly's site and installed
a tweak from there that removed the administrator from the desktop. On my
next startup, I still get the screen that says "To begin, click your user
name" but I have no user names to click on. I tried booting up in safe mode
but it goes to the same screen.
I know, I should have left well enough alone and "stupid is as stupid does"
but is there any way I can get to my desktop? Or is my only option
reinstalling the OS? Thanks in advance. Ron

How to Automatically Logon to Windows XP:

If you want XP to boot directly to the desktop, follow these steps:

1. Click Start/Run and type: control userpasswords2 and press OK.

2. Remove the check mark from from the "Users must enter a username and
password to use this computer check box. Click Apply.

3. Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with,
and then click OK/OK.

Paul,
Thanks for the response. My problem is that I am unable to boot to the
desktop to where I can click start/run etc. I can't get past the click on
user name because other than "click on user name", there is nothing else on
the screen..Ron

Just from what I've read here, it might help to press Ctrl/Alt-Delete
twice. You might then be given the Administrator account.

Just before or as that screen loads, did you try ctrl+alt+del two times?
