log-on screen returns for no reason

When I turn my computer on, I get a screen which asks for
a password, I enter it, and then my desktop shows up
eventually.

In the past, when I walked away from the computer for a
while, first the screen-saver would come on, then, if I
was really gone for a long time (like, while an anti-
virus program was running), the monitor would shut down.
HOWEVER, when I cam back, all I had to do was tap the
space-bar, and the screen which I had left, with the
program running, would pop back up.

Last week, I down-loaded the most recent security updates
from Symantec (Norton/Systemworks) and a few MSN
updates. THE PROBLEM: now, when I walk away from my
computer, even for a short time, it goes from the screen-
saver all the way back to the log-on/password-required
screen. After I type in my password, it THEN goes back
to the screen I left.

What do I do to stop this unneeded security? (The
computer is sitting in my home, with no other users.)
System: XP, Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer 6, etc.

Right click the Desktop, Select Properties, Screen Saver and uncheck On
resume, Show Welcome Screen or On resume, password protect, as appropriate.

Sounds good; however, where do I find the "Desktop" icon
on link on which to "right click"?

Right click on a blank area of your Desktop.
