I was fiddling with the settings on my new home wireless setup and
after I was finished, there was a change in the way one of my
computers started up. It used to be that on startup, it went right to
the Windows desktop.

Now, however, I get this little message saying "Log on to Windows"
with a space where my name is and then a space for "password." Well,
I NEVER created a password for this computer. Why is it now asking for
one?

Scared me for a moment because I thought I'd never be able to start
the thing up!!! But I left the space blank and clicked the "OK" button
anyway and then startup continued to the desktop as normal. Whew!

I used control panel to access the password utility, but there was no
selection for "Use NO password".

How do I eliminate this unecessary startup step?

Thanks

1. Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2 and press ok.

2. On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer check box and then click OK.

3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user name and password for the account you want to be logged on each time you start your computer.

I do NOT want to use a password. But I put one in because you said I
should. Now I cannot access windows. It asks for my password and when
I type in the one I assigned, I get this Logon Message saying "The
system could not log you on. Make sure user name and domain are
correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be
typed using the correct cast". So I click OK and the screen that
appears looks like the original one that came with the computer, not
the one I set up over the past 2 weeks.

Now it's really f****d up.

Sorry, but I did not tell you to put a password on you're account? In the instructions I gave you it says to enter the user name and password for the default account, if the account does not have a password, then of course you would just leave that blank.
