I have the same problem as oter users have been having.

When I boot my PC with XP home edition there are no user names shown at the
welcome screen.

I have Booted in safe mode and done ctrl-alt-del twice to get the "second"
login screen. I have used "Administrator" with a blank or no password. Once I
press enter after this I get the logon message:

"The System cannot log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are
correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed
using the correct case"

I have done a repair using the Windows XP home edition CD. All installs
correctly except sound card drivers. System reboots with the same problems as
above.

I would like to Save the data on the hard drive so a complete Fdisk and
start over is not an option.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I just ran a program called Austrumi and it says that it cannot find
usernames in registry.

is there a way to change this?

Try resetting the administrator's password to a blank by
booting the machine with this boot diskette:

This is actually the same program that I had Just ran.

I get the same message choosing to "Edit user data and passwords"

"Cannot find usernames in registry!"

Insert the drive as a slave drive in another XP or win2000 system, then
copy the data. You might need this:

If you have no user names in the registry then some virus
or malware has corrupted it. Windows will not let you
delete the Administrator account. You could try and reboot
in "Last Known Good Configuration" although I suspect
thet the result will be the same.

Post again if you need any assistance with salvaging
data that is not backed up.
