Please can someone advise me? For ever I have logged off and on in the same
way on Windows XP I go to 'start' click the 'shutdown' red button and a
window pops up with three colourful buttons asking if i want to log off
restart or shut down. I click one and it does what it needs to do. When i
turn my PC on it goes straight to the desktop and boots.

All of a sudden now, when I press the red 'shutdown' button in the start
menu a new box opens up. It has a drop down box which I need to click which
now includes the options of hibernate and stand by. This is all new. Also
when I turn the PC on it comes up with a box prior to getting to the desktop
and asks for a password, which I dont fill in, I click continue and it
continues to the desktop, the username field was already filled in. I have
searched for spyware but nothing found, I am sure I dont have a virus....what
could cause this process to change on its own, can I change it back? Please
help, someone !!!

Turn on the Welcome Screen.

1.Open User Accounts in Control Panel.

2.Click Change the way users log on or off.

3.Use Welcome Screen and Use Fast User Switching.Apply options.
