Dear Users:

My machine automatically shuts down at random points after the machine has
been on for a little while. Today I left my apartment and came back to the
login screen. So the system is not just shutting down but restarting on its
own. I selected the option NOT to automatically restart upon system errors
in my System Properties dialog box. The question is, is there a log telling
me when it shut down and what errors caused the machine to restart? I was
advised that my current settings would cause a blue screen to appear with a
bunch of error messages but I never have seen this screen (I think they were
referring to the infamous Blue Screen. . . ).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you Ayush.
I started the eventvwr (Event Viewer) but I can't seem to find any messages
regarding shut down. I believe the machine shuts off as if there is a power
failure and does not go through the proper shut down procedure. It then
restarts and brings me back to the log-in screen. Is there a problem with my
Windows XP software?

Click Start menu > Run
Type "sysdm.cpl ,3" (Without quotes) > Click OK
Click 3rd Settings button
Uncheck "Automatically restart"
CLick OK twice.

After this, if the system reboots then this is a hardware fault. If not, there
should be a BSOD and error message in Event viewer.
