I'm looking for some hints in trying to determine why my system locks up.
My environment:
ABIT NF7
ATI Radeon 9800 pro
CPU AMD 1800

I know there could be thousands of things to consider -- can anyone suggest
a few?

At times the lock occurs in a game, other times in windows apps -- some
times they occur after a period of inactivity.

Sometimes what looks like a lockup is a busy processor that can't do
anything else at the moment. Wait a while. If it happens too often, find out
what is taking all the processer time. A background virus scanner that is
crunching a large file can stall the system. A virus itself can freeze you
too.

The mouse freezes, as well, and the cpu light is not flashing.
