lockups & hangs

I have been experiencing a weird situation the past week, where something
seems to be running in the background (I can hear it)...my mouse doesn't work
well, I have to click on something 10 times to get it to work. I have done
everything I can think of, disabled programs from startup menu, etc. I have a
relatively new HP Compaq Presario with Windows Vista, which I hate so far.
The lockups are intermittent, but constant. I've used HP's chat support to no
avail. Anyone had this?

Hi Joanlee,

Many have. Vista is indexing your hard drive for you so it can locate
things faster. Aren't you glad it's doing that? Some day it will
finish and then it will speed up about 2%. I don't think it will make
you much happier. Service Pack 1 will be released shortly which may
help you too.

You may have a lot of crapware installed from HP that is loading also.
Most new computers do. Go into Add/Remove Programs and remove what you
aren't using (BE SURE of what you're removing), or get Autoruns and
disable items in the Startup folder, Run key in Current User & Local
Machine in the registry.

Just uncheck the items rather than deleting them in Autoruns, in case
you uncheck something that is needed, you can re-enable it easily.
