intermittant keyboard lockup

i am using windows xp (prof) and i am experiencing intermittant keyboard
lockups and at the same time the mouse locks. The only way out is to press
the reset button.

i have the current graphics card drivers (geforce Ti4200), and also tried
different keyboards

does anyone have any suggestions as to the cause

Thanks - but we have tried that to no avail.
Has anyone any other ideas.
