Lockout on LAN with XP

I had two computers networked, one with 98 and the other
with XP Home Edition. They were working fine. I
upgrdaded the 98 computer to Win 2000. After a struggle I
got the network functioning. The next time I turned the
computers on the network was not working. I've been
struggling with it for 2 days with no result. I can ping
both computers OK. I can access the shared drives on the
XP computer from the 2000 computer. I can see the 2000
computer from the XP machine, but none of the shared
drives. On the XP machine, when I click on the 2000
computer name in "My Network Places" I get a "log in"
window (with some keys at the top) requesting a log in
name and a password. I don't know how this window came to
be, and I certainly don't know how to get rid of it. I
believe it is the reason I can't access the shared drives
on the 2000 computer. There are two printers connected to
the 2000 computer that I'm also being denied access to.

Any help would be sincerly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

Try:

1. On the Win2k machine, enable the Guest account - Right click My Computer
and select Manage - go to Local Users and Groups.

2. Go to Administrative Tools/Local Security Policy. Expand Local Policies
and click on User Rights Assignment. Double click on Access this computer
from the network, and add the Guest account.

Doug, that fixed the problem. Works perfectly now.
Thanks very much for your help.

Dave
