Locking part of a word doc to write and use checkboxes

How do I enable checkboxes in a word document and lock them for use, while
still being able to type in other sections of the document.
I saw something about putting in section breaks, but don't know what to do
after that...?

You can protect specific sections and leave others unprotected. How you
approach this depends on what version of Word you have.
