Locking height and width of cells?

Designing the main index page with lots of short and narrow
cells within a 900 wide table, whenever I add or change
content in a different column (cell) the other columns
change their height and width. No matter checking the
SPECIFY boxes.
Is there a way to actually lock the size and width of cells?

It seems I can lock the width of the main table, but cannot
lock the height. Is there a way to specify a firm height so
there is actually a fixed bottom to a page?

No.

Cell dimensions are minimum *RECOMMENDED* values. If the table needs to
override them based on its content it will, and it will do it without
asking.

Instead of trying to bludgeon your table into shape with dimensions, it's so
much easier not to use dimensions at all and allow the table to collapse
around its contents - the way it wants to do anyhow.

Hmmm... If I uncheck the SPECIFY width and height boxes in
the main table, it does what you say, but as soon as I go
back and look they are once again checked and I am back
where I began with just a bigger table.

The specific problem is that I have a narrow column on the
left of links, each has a title cell and a graphic cell,
there are 17 of them. That is 34 cells. When I add or
change things in the left cell, it changes things in the
right cells, meaning I have to go and resize and move up all
34 of them again, everytime I make the slightest change in
the left cell. Very time consuming. And to top it off, I get
an extra column a few pixels wide on the far right that I
cant seem to get rid of. If I move or size that cell, or try
and size the table to get rid of it, it just moves that
sliver of a column somewhere else. Making borders look like
heck.

If you drag table/cell borders they become 'set'.

but not locked. So if you are changing them to no specific value, then close
the dialog and drag borders in design view, they'll be come set at some
setting...not good thing to do.
