Locking Font

I am using a font (swisscondlight) that isn't standard within my website. I
tried viewing the website at home and (i guess) I don't have the font
installed at home so it changes the font to aerial (or whatever). Anyways my
question is, is it possible to somehow lock the font so that no matter who
opens it sees the font (swisscondlight) like they actually have the font?

The simple way is to use your font, take screen shots
and use images to display the font.

The hard way is to use WEFT font embedding.
However, it requires that a visitor download and install
the font and then refresh the page to see it.

No. To see the font, they must have the font on their machine. You could try
WEFT http://www.microsoft.com/typography/web/embedding/weft3/default.htm
but it would require the user to allow the download of the font to their
machine.

If the font is important to you, try using it in an image program to create
your logo, etc.

What happens if the person viewing the website, click "NO" to not install
WEFT?

Ok I just read about the WEFT program and I got one question, it sounds to
me like it downloads the font temperarily, is that correct? (I couldn't find
anything telling me yes or no on the website)

If they click "no", the font will not install. It's doubtful many people
will download and install it.

Once its installed on their system, it stays there.
BTW, the WEFT program has been reported to be quirky, and not properly work
all the time. It is also not support in some browsers, including Netscape.

If they say no then they'll just see an ordinary font! WEFT is a pain in the
neck.
Don't go there.... most folks probably won't go to the trouble! I'm sure
wouldn't!
Which image editing program do you have? Fireworks is great for making image
gifs, but you can do it in many others as well! Use you image editing
program to make font-gifs for titles or headings etc. and stick to regular
fonts for the main text on your page. Here's an example:

The best way to be sure the customer sees the font you want is to make an
image of the text you want in the font you want.

MS has WEFT, which would allow the viewer to downloaf the font. However,
the user would have to choose to accept the font and it is not 100% in
non-IE browsers. The user I believe would also have to have
download-on-demand enabled. I also do not know what would happen if the
font was not free

I have the Switzerland set of fonts, but I don't use them on the web,
instead I would use either Arial or Helvetica

Palmsprings I never come across.

How are proprietary fonts affected by WEFT? Or vice versa? Why should I have
to pay for a font when there could be a website out there with that font
just waiting for me to download it? (Which I probably wouldn't do because I
download things from the web very carefully and the LAST thing I need is
another font.)

Licensing issue, some font are not license to be using on anything other
than your PC.

No, certain font are coded with embedding permissions, and I believe WEFT
checks each font to see what the permissions are.

I think PowerPoint and Word also do this.

If you have WEFT enabled, you have a major security hold open on your PC
- just as .scr files, weft files can be used to mask a virus
