Locking Down IE 6

We are trying to lock down our library user computers. they all use XP pro,
and are not part of our domain. We need to lock the machines down to where a
patron can only surf the net. So far we have locked them down to only showing
the IE icon and the start menu with log off: features we are willing to leave
on. Most of the drop down menus for Internet Explorer are locked out. We need
to lock out the "View" menu options, especially the Privacy Report. The
"Tools" menu still allows POP UP BLOCKER choices. If we could elimate TOOLS
and VIEW we would be in fgood shape. I have searched your site and others on
the net and havent found a solution. Thanks for your help

Hi,
Go to http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBD/tip1900/rh1976.htm look for Btn_Tools

Go to http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823057 look for
"NoToolbarOptions: The user receives the error message when they try to
click any command on the View menu except Customize and Lock the Toolbars.

The following menus are removed when the appropriate registry DWORD value is
added:

NoToolBar: Removes the toolbar. However you can add standard buttons on the
View Toolbar menu. To completely enable this setting, you must enable the
NoToolbarOptions DWORD value."

I think that the JSI page and the MS article cover about all of the
restrictions that can be applied to IE.

Hope this helps,
Don

Hello Russ,
I'm also trying to lock down our library computers with XP Pro. I would be
interested in learning which registry keys you used to achieve this. I'm
still trying to find a way to keep users from gaining access to Internet
Options through the Privacy icon which then gives them access to the Settings
under Internet Options. I have blocked the Internet Options through a
registry key under Tools and all the Tabs but for some reason the Privacy
Report Icon still gives them access to all of the above.
Thanks for your help and I'd be glad to share my registry restrictions with
you.
