Locking document so paragraphs dont move when I input data

Hi, I have a risk assesment template I use in Word 2003, I am trying to lock
parts of the document so that when I go to make a risk assesment for a job,
other parts of the page dont move around when I insert data.

I tried using protect document, but when I do this and activate, I can enter
into the allowed spaces but the whole document moves around, I just need to
lock the template I have for the blank one, so that when I add input, the
other parts don't start moving around when I start typing.

Help appreciated, thanks.

Hi Camdean,

You can achieve what you're after by putting the text formfields into table cells with fixed height and width. That way, there'll
always be a defined space set aside for the data.

The problem is it wasn't created using a table, it has been done with lines
and then titles were inserted into the document, it was used as a print out
before and hand written, so would there be a way to lock the lines and all
the contained wording on my template ?

If not, I will have to create a new one, using a table but that means a
little more work as I have to then have to change my management code to
accomodate changes, which I try and avoid.

I'm guessing you want lines you can actually type on, so most forms created
for printout won't do the trick. For example, if you added the lines with
tab leaders or underline characters, you'll lose the lines as you type text.
For ways to "draw a line" in a form, see
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/tblsfldsfms/LinesInForms.htm. (Note that the
article also links to articles on protected forms, which you can simply
ignore.)
