I am setting up a new PC running XP Home for a young child who will use it
only for playing games. She knows how to go to start, pick her games, start
them, etc.

How can I set it up so she cannot accidentally change the desktop
arrangement. move the icons around or mess up the start items?

Thanks.

With XP Home you will need to use non-native software. Try either MVP
Doug Knox's Security Console or the Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit.

Thanks. I look into it.

Another question if I may. This is a very young child. Some of the
installed games require the CD to be in the CD tray. If she had to change
CDs I am afraid the CD drive tray would not last long. Since I have plenty
of space, I can copy the entire CD to the HD, but how do I trick the game to
look at the hard drive instead of the CD drive? I think one can make a drive
look like another but I do not remember how to do that.

Use virtual drive software such as Alcohol 120%.
