Locking Clolumn Color So It Won't Get Dragged Away

I have a spread sheet with different colored columns. I often drag
and drop data from one column to another but the color in the cells
gets dragged along leaving the cells white with no fill. Can this be
avoided. I've tried conditionally formatting the column colors but it
doesn't fix this. Thanks.

Hi

Try using Copy>Paste Special
You then have the choice of pasting Values or Formulae, and the format
of the receiving cell(s) will not be altered.

What I tend to do is, drag, let the colors or formatting be
temporarily screwed up, then click in the little box that
temporarily appears once I've let go of the mouse from dragging,
and select "Fill Without Formatting" or "Match Destination Formatting,"
depending on what kind of paste operation it was I just did.

I do the same. But then you have to go back and fix the cells you
dragged from because the formatting was dragged away. Seems there
should be a way to prevent this. Maybe not.
