Locking cells

I have a spreadsheet that i'm trying to lock in such a way that only a
few cells are selectable and editable. I'm using Excel 03, and whenever
I try to do it, it'll still allow me to select the cell. It won't let me
edit it, but i want to set it up so that the cells are not selectable at
all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

tools / protection / protect sheet - UNTICK select locked cells

should do what you want.
