locking a hard drive

How can I lock a hard drive? I have a external hard drive and i would like to
place a password on it. How can i do that?

With a third party application of your choice. Many external drives come
with such software, if yours did not then you might try a site such as
snapfiles.com for an application to do that.

EFS is an option but it is complex and not something most people really want
to play with.
