Lock-ups and drop offs.

We have a network that has 2003 Server Standard with XP Pro workstations with
three problems that occur.

1. Some, not all of the workstations after being left on all night lose
their authitication. Basically it's like they get logged off. To get them
connected again to network resources they have to be logged off and logged
back on. Again this happens to just some of the workstations.

2. Some of the workstations locup around 5 PM. I have looked at the
event viewer and have not seen anything that would cause the lockups.
Anything I can do to find this problem is gratly appreaciated.

3. Workstations will randamoly lockup while doing some of the least
system consuming tasks, like type a word document.

There is nothing that I am finding in the event viewer that shows a problem
on any of the workstations.

Knowing sp2 does things to dns, I would bet you need a better NIC card
driver. I would remove and re-find in device manager to see if that helps.
Maybe try the Update Driver button on the driver tab of the NIC Properties
in dev mgr.

see if flushing DNS after a dropped connection brings it back
DNS fails: restart windows, after you go to start/run, and type CMD, then at
that prompt type: IPCONFIG /flushDNS and then : IPCONFIG /registerDNS

If the flush works, it might just be a hangover from the sp2 upgrade.

The lockup is definately a driver error of some kind
