lock-up at Start up winXP

Hello everyone

It seems when I start up Win XP it seems to load forever. IF,
I can get the task mgr
up, The CPU is at 100% with something like 66 processe's going. I
tried waiting it out a few times, but I find if I shut down (holding
the off button) then restart. It works fine the second time!
The "normal" amount of process's shown is usually around 58 in the
task mgr. Any ideas anyone? I believe I have BOTH Roxio Go Back and
the Microsoft Restore on. That probably is not good, I am not sure how
to shut down the Restore product (if that is the one to close down
assuming Roxio's Go Back is better). Also in the task mgr there is
about 4 or 5 SVCHOST files going. I know about the "clean boot" link,
but what does a "clean boot" look like? Anyway, my Defrag does not
Defrag like it used to. If I get a list of fragged up files I would
like to get rid of them or clean them up. Are there any tools out
there that would help?

Any help is appreciated
Thanks
Bob R

Try unplugging the network connection at bootup.
Also, run a good anti-virus scan, personally I would suggest a good one
like Avast. If that does not work, you can run msconfig.sys and disable
some of the start-up items one by one, you can isolate the problem. :)
