My mother has limited use of her hands and has a
difficult time with the mouse/keyboard. I want to 'lock'
the only icon I have showing on the desktop (AOL) so she
can't move it around or delete it inadvertently. Is
there a way to do this without purchasing lockdown
software?

Thanks - April

You can open display, desktop, customize, locate the box "lock
desktop items".

I did that but it didn't work. That choice is only under
the 'Web' tab on my computer under customize. Do you
know a way that the icon to start AOL on the desktop
cannot be moved at all or deleted? I can't seem to get
rid of the recycle bin permanently and I'm afraid she'll
accidentally drop it in there if I don't lock that AOL
icon.

Thanks for any suggestions. April

Why not just deselect the Show Desktop Icons on that right click menu or
move the AOL icon somewhere else like to the Start Menu or Quick Launce
Toolbar? You seem to making this as hard as possible for one single icon.

You can't lock icons. Explorer will make sure they are always visible. Because Users are totally stupid and foolish Explorer tries to compensate for user idiocy.
