I've arranged my desktop icons on my laptop just like I want them positioned
and organized. However, I've noticed that my icons keep moving around, which
I think is the result of switching to an external monitor (change of
resolution and drivers?) or loosing power on my laptop (settings are lost?).
Is there some way to lock my icon positions and save the settings?

Not natively with Windows XP; you'll have to use a third-party utility.

I've used this freebie for years:

though a quick search on Google will reveal many more for you.

Hi Olórin,

Thanks for your suggestion - I will try out the software and see how it goes!
