My system frequently downloads to the Temp directory. The hierarchy of
directories looks like this:

Local Disk C
Documents & Settings
Administrator
Local Settings
Temp

I know this because it's what opens up when I click on a file in the
directory (as an attachment, for example).

Unfortunately, when I try to find this directory, it is not available.
The directory exists and contains files but I can't get to it via My
Computer or Explorer or the usual suspects. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

The TEMP directory (pointed to by the environmental variables %TEMP% and %TMP%) may be
marked as a hidden-system directory. Either you have to change the attributes of the
directory or you have to indicate the Explorer windows to view hidden-system files.

There are quite a few hidden folders inside the profile - Local Settings is
one of them.

If you set Explorer to show you Hidden files, you'll be able to see the
folder.

You can do that by opening an Explorer window, and clicking:
Tools / Folder Options
View (tab)
Under Hidden files and folders, change the setting to Show hidden files and
folders.

Click Apply / OK, and you'll be set.

I hate searching through subdirectories, so I make a folder called
"downloads" in the c: directory. I can train most downloads to go there and
they are easy to find.
