Locate Normal.dot

I am looking for "Normal.dot". From explorer I changed the setup to allow
the view of hidden files, then I ran a search on C drive, I searched for
normal.do, *.dot, and normal.* - all of the above didn't find or locate the
file.

is there any other way to find the Normal.dot (is this file a template or a
macro?)

I appreciate any help or suggestion. thank you.

Before I go into *where* Normal.dot is stored, I have to ask *why*
you're looking for it. If you just want to customize it, there are
better ways than locating it with Windows Explorer -- see
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CustomizeNormalTemplate.htm.

If you've been told to rename or delete it to solve a problem (note:
renaming is better because you can usually retrieve any customizations
that are stored in it), the instructions for finding it are at the end
of that article. On Windows 2000, XP, or 2003, the path is usually
C:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dot.

Normal.dot is a hidden file (in recent Word versions) in the folder defined
at tools > options > file locations > user templates.
You will need to set Windows Explorer to display hidden files in order to
locate it.
