Local Settings

Is there a directory in w2k pro called "Local Settings" for each profile
that stores data?

I recently suffered an I/O error from a faulty device which corrupted one of
my user's profiles from loading. When I attempted to recover data, I could
not find any of the e-mail files (I believe they are *.dbx in OE) which I
thought were stored in "Local Settings".

What is strange is that I have reinstalled OE and opened some new e-mail
directories, but a file search can still not locate any of these files.

Is it possible for this subdircectory (or any subsdirectory) to be hidden?
If so, how do you restore it?

Thanks!

Yes. My OE folders (*.dbx) are stored in:

C:\Documents and Settings\(profile name)\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{long identifying alpha-num string}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\

Mine are not hidden, but they might be out of the box.

All subfolders below each profile name:

*\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{long identifying alpha-num
string}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\ *

are simply gone, disappeared. Is there any way to recover them?

The \default user profile is probably damaged. Copy it from a like machine.
