Local Domain Name

On our local domain, when we ping or do an nslookup to
another system in either the parent domain or another
child domain, the address resolves properly but our local
domain name is added to the remote host name as the FQDN.
The remote system is properly represented in the remote or
other domain in our DNS but for some reason the remote
domain is not correctly added to the ost when resolving.

Any thoughts?

We have our domain first in suffix search list and the
other domains are listed as well. We also have the other
zones as secondary zones on our DNS server with the proper
entries. Even though the entries are correct in the other
zones, they respond to ping or NSLookup as if they are in
our domain.

Do you have a WINS server on your network. If the DNS zone for your domain is configured to forward requests to a WINS server and all machines from both
domains are registered in WINS, this behavior will occur. Disable the forward to WINS option for that zone.
