loads of red x's

When I try to open some pages I get loads of red x's. It
appears to be where the graphics should be. For instance,
when I try to open pogo, ebay or ask jeeves most of the
page and all of the pictures have red x's instead of
graphics. These x's are in a white box. Also, if I go to
view and then encoding...auto select is checked. If I
uncheck it and re-check it..it sometimes corrects the red
x's. But only untill I open the page again.
