loading program in safe mode

Is is possible to load an anti-virus program like Norton while XP is in safe
mode and then run the program in safe mode? The computer does not have
anti-virus installed. It is infected and not working in regular start-up so
I was hoping to install the anti-virus to disinefect. Thanks for any help

You can run Norton from the cd, for basic AV functionality.
If you can boot with network support you can also run an online scan, eg
Trend Micro - probably better than Norton

'Gotta agree with you, Trend Micro's House Scan does a great job. I use it
aprox once a month and let AVG take care of the computer the rest of the
time.
