loading problem

I am running xp home. went to microsoft to do updates.
when rebooting I can log in but no desktop icons or
taskbar. Help
What do I need to do?

Boot the system, start tapping F8, when the menu appears, select "Last known
good configuration" and press enter.

If that fails to resolve it, boot the system, start tapping F8, when the
menu appears select Safe Mode and press enter. At Safe Mode you should be
presented with the opportunity to go directly to System Restore, accept it.
Then use System Restore to take you back to a time prior to when this began.

Will try that woiuld it be good idea to go to control
panel and remove the last updates ?

System Restore is the better way to go because it will restore any settings
that were changed by the updates. The update uninstall routine might miss
some settings.
