loading OS to RAM!

When the BIOS load the OS to memory, will the BIOS load all the OS to memory
or keep some to HD (virtual memory). If BIOS will load all OS to memory, how
much Win98 and WinXP takes memory space?
Thanks

When you boot, only a small portion of the operating system (the kernel -
the guts of the OS) are copied to RAM. The rest stays on the hard drive (not
in virtual memory) until it is called upon.
