load software onto multiple computers?

I have MS Office XP standard for Students and Teachers V 2002 loaded on to my
desktop computer. I am installing a wireless network so my older daughter
can have the internet on a laptop that we are giving her for Christmas. This
laptop is used and came with Win 2000 installed. It does not have Word,
Excel, or Powerpoint installed.
I heard somewhere you could install MS Office XP standard for Students and
Teachers on upto 4 computers though my instructions here say no. What's the
truth, have the rules changed since we bought this a couple of years ago? I
really only want to get Word, Excel, and Powerpoint installed on this laptop.
Is there a way to do this with my software, or do I have to buy another
license? Thanks

I believe the Academic license allows for up to three simultaneous
installations, but I'm not sure. Of course, the software is licensed
per user, so you'd have to be the primary user of each computer on which
you install your license. Unfortunately, I don't have a definitive
answer for you, as I've not encountered an Academic license "in the
wild." However, if you were to simply read the Office EULA that's on
your hard drive, your question will be answered.

If you haven't done so already, you might want to post your
question to one of the Office newsgroups. I'd suggest the
Office Setup group.

Left hand column, click on Office
http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx

That said, I can only speak from knowledge dealing with Office
2003 Student and Teacher Edition which can be installed on up
to 3 computers within the same household.

You might want to check the EULA for your version. Open one of
the applications, Word for example, and click on Help in the
toolbar at the top of the window. Select "About Microsoft Word"
from the menu. In the box that pops up, click on "View the
End-User License Agreement". Somewhere early in the agreement
should be a section outlining any restrictions on installing
the software.

Good luck
