Load needed DLL for kernel

while upgrading the Windows Me on my Compaq notebook to
Windows2000 the system reported the follwing error:

"Windows could not start because of an error in the
software. Load the needed DLL for the kernel."

Kindly advise on what steps I need to adopt to recover my
system.
 
Since there is no "upgrade path" from Win ME to Windows2000, you would
need to locate all the necessary Windows2000 drivers for your notebook
and then do a fomat and a clean install.
