Live OneCare will not backup from VISTA over network

Guest

I am running Windows Live OneCare on 3 systems. XP Home Desktop (P4) w/ 250GB
external drive, XP Pro laptop (P3) w/ wireless connection to Desktop, and
VISTA Home Premium laptop (Dual Core) w/ wired & wireless connection to
desktop. Live OneCare backs up the XP Pro over the wireless network to the
Desktop & external (although s l o w l y ) with no problem. VISTA
consistently crashes (BSOD) whether I am using the wired or wireless
connection to the Desktop. I can see and access all shared resources on the
Desktop and the XP Pro laptop from the VISTA laptop (except for the Printer
:{ ... a long standing problem) so I am confident that the network is
viable. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You might want to leave a message in the OneCare ng:
microsoft.public.windows.live.onecare.backup

If you are using Windows Mail, click Newsgroups on the Toolbar > type it in
the click Subscribe.

Hi, John.

There are basically TWO ways to read these newsgroups, also known as
Microsoft Communities. You can either access them with a browser, as you
apparently are doing, through what is often called the "web-based
interface". Or you can use a news reader, as I am doing. Most of the
people who come here for help are using the browser. Most of the ones who
are helping prefer the news reader and (like me) can barely stand the GUI
approach. :>(

First, see if you prefer the news reader, using Windows Mail (which is built
into Vista, just as Outlook Express was included in several generations of
Windows). Just click here:

news://microsoft.public.com/microsoft.public.windows.vista.general

That one click should start Windows Mail, create your News Account for the
Microsoft public news server (which is free and does not require a logon),
connect you to the Vista General newsgroup, download the 300 newest headers,
and show you the newest one. In other words, it will bring you right back
to here, but with a different look and feel. Browse a few messages and see
if you like it better.

Then you can click on Newsgroups to see the list of over 2,000 groups and
subscribe to as many as interest you. Or click here to go directly to the
OneCare group that Andre mentioned:
news://microsoft.public.com/microsoft.public.windows.live.onecare.backup

If you still prefer the web-based interface, then point your browser to
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/default.mspx and thread your way
through the ... Well, I was going to say to look in the list of discussion
groups for Windows Live OneCare Backup - but I can't find it in the list.
So type "onecare.backup" into the search box and see if you can find
relevant messages.

Hey, I pasted the full "microsoft.public.windows.live.onecare.backup" into
the search box and got something, but they are not the same messages as in
the newsgroup. Oh, I see. The first one is your original post in THIS
thread! I can't tell where they fit into the Discussion Groups hierarchy.
As I said, I simply can't stand to even try that interface for more than a
few minutes every few months, just to see if it has improved. :>(

Maybe Andre knows how to find that specific newsgroup in Discussions.
