Live Mail Contacts/Import

First of all, you would have export the Address Book as a "Text File (Comma
Separated Values)" - File > Export > Address Book > Save the file to a
desired location where you'll be able to find it, either to desktop,
diskette (you are gonna need to copy it over to Vista). Choose the Fields
you wish to Export: > Close the dialog.

Put the file on a Diskette, burn to CD-R or CD-RW or copy to the Vista
partition if you have Vista and XP setup in a dual boot configuration.

In Vista:

Click Start > type in "Contacts" > press enter > on the toolbar, clikc
"Import" > select CSV (Comma Separated Values) > next > browse to the
location where the file is stored Diskette, CD-R or CD-RW or copy to the
Vista partition > select the file > click Open > Next

Can't be done at the moment - but it's something that'll be considered to be
integrated by M7/M8 (next few months).

Hmmm. I seem to be in the wrong area. I am using Windows XP and beta testing
Live Mail on that.
I have done searches for Live Mail but can't find anything for it on XP.

Live Mail (Beta) is quite different than "Windows Live Mail Desktop (Beta)"
so you need to indicate which program you are really using. Additionally in
the Vista operating system, the mail client is also called "Windows Mail"
which further adds to the confusion. Live Mail (Beta) will only use
contacts that you already have listed in your Passport identification that
you use to log on. "Windows Live Mail Desktop (Beta)" automatically imports
all the contacts in your Windows Address Book when it's installed. "Windows
Mail" in Vista has a similar capability.

Confused enough, yet?

Yes, I'm confused. But that's all right! This makes sense now. Thank you for
taking the time to explain.

Windows Live Mail - web based email client, will replace Hotmail.
Windows Live Mail Desktop - the software based client which integrates XP
Outlook Express, and Hotmail together into a desktop product.

I don't have Windows Live Mail Desktop, but I imagine it uses the Windows
mail storage format or at least something different from the OE message
format. I sure hope so.

I know that OE used the .dbx file format, I know Windows Mail has a new Mail
Store, I don't if WLMD is compatible with that.

The WLMDb takes the messages from the existing store, processes it though
the application so that existing messages/newsgroup entries are stored in
WLMDb, then placed into a new store - it's basically from one folder to
another, but it's just a folder thats all )

OE 6+ - C:\Users\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
Express
WLMD - C:\Users\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows

I am using windows live mail desktop beta on windowsXP.

Like a few others I am a little confused about the OE address book and wlmd
contacts.

1. I read that when programme is set up it will automatically import a OE
address book. NOT TRUE for me.

2. I read that I have to export the OE address book to a text file and then
import into wlmd. CANNOT.

Under 2. I am sorry I do not understand the concept of a text file "Comma
Separated Values". Also you can only import messages and accounts!!

Associated problem. If I receive mail and I go to add address to contact I
get message "you have to log in using another account". Does this mean that
if you are logged in with your principle mail account and you receive mail
under a second account you have to relog in using the second mail account???
If this is the case it is retrograde to OE - shame.

Thanks.

WLMD contacts are shared with messenger (or the other way around).
I suppose it means u have to login with the default WLMD account on
messenger to change contacts.
