Lite-On 52x burner

I installed a Lite-On CD-RW (52x32x52) drives in my computer (a P4 2.4 GHz
on an i845 mobo running Win XP SP2). I downloaded and installed the latest
firmware from Lite-On's site.

I made a copy of a CD containing 217 MP3 files (about 680 MB), which took 15
minutes. I then copied an audio CD containing 22 tunes totaling 66 minutes
and the burn time was 10 minutes. In both cases, I used TDK 52x media and
Nero 5.5.

I keep hearing about folks copying full CDs in just under or just over three
minutes using today's fast CD burners. I thought something was wrong with my
dirve so I returned it and exchanged it for a new one, with the same
results. Why is it taking so long?

Check the default burn speed setting in Nero.

Check the device manager of Windows under IDE ATA/ATAPI controller to see if
DMA is activated on the channel the burner is connected to.
