listing in directory checkbox not display on sharing tab

D

Damita

I have a W2K network here, with AD, one print server, one
file server, and one web server.

Via the Print server, I added an HP LaserJet 2200 network
printer. After adding the printer, I right clicked the
printer and selected the sharing tab. I shared the
printer as HPLaserJet2200; however, I never see the
'List in directory' checkbox! This applies to the Xerox
printer that I added to the network.

In my management console I am looking at my 'Active Dir
Users and Computers' container and do not see any of my
printers being displayed in AD, even though all of the
network shared printers are shared.

Am I missing something? I'd appreciate any help.

Verify that the Allow printers to be published Policy is disabled. Then
enabled it.

gpedit.msc / Administrative Templates / Printers

Determines whether the computer's shared printers can be published in Active
Directory.

If you enable this setting or do not configure it, users can use the "List
in directory" option in the Printer's Properties' Sharing tab to publish
shared printers in Active Directory.

If you disable this setting, this computer's shared printers cannot be
published in Active Directory, and the "List in directory" option is not
available.

Note: This settings takes priority over the setting "Automatically publish
new printers in the Active Directory".

It is set to not configured. So, by default it should
allow publishing of printers. Do you have any other
suggestions?

Q: If I set this printer up as a local administrator,
would the "list in directory" check box not occur? I
don't believe this is the issue though.

Thanks
Damita

The printui looks for information regarding the AD when opening the sharing
dialog. What OS is the domain controller?

Also what network protocols are you running? Are you running any client
software other than Microsoft Windows Network?

I have seen this on a clustered system but it was due to a tool I used when
setting up the printers. When I ran through the Add Printer Wizard, these
printers had the checkbox.

The printer attribute was set to local and remote which confused the
printui.
