Is it possible to get a list of computers on a LAN using the command
prompt?

net view - show computers in your workgroup
net view /domain - show workgroups on the network
net view /domain:xxx - show computers in workgroup xxx

net help view - show all options for "net view"

I'm assuming that Adam's original question was about a typical home
LAN, also known as a "peer-to-peer" network. My answer doesn't apply
to a network set up as a domain, with one or more computers running
server operating systems.

In a peer-to-peer network, all computers must be in a workgroup.
