i'm working on a linksys wrt54g router (firmware v. 2.04.4). the http and
smtp ports work fine but the pop3 port doesn't pick up mail. bypassing the
router causes the problem to go away. i could update the firmware but the
last linksys i tried that on caused a problem which broke the vpn port
forwarding. i've disabled the firewall without helping. thanks for any help.

Try to set the POP and SMTP servers within your email app to the actual
IP address instead of the server name. IE instead of mail.mailserve.net
set it to xx.xx.xx.xx or whatever the IP happens to be (you can discover
it or your ISP should be able to help. I have encountered this a few
times with the Linsys and a local Cable ISP.
