Linksys WMP300n locking system tight

I'm hoping someone else has seen this and figured out an answer. I have a
couple of HP DX5000 series systems with Adaptec RAID controllers in them. I
attempted to install a LINKSYS WMP300n controller, and the system locks
regularly. Once I remove the WMP300n, everything works fine. I temporarily
have them hard-wired and using a USB NIC. Linksys said it is probably an
Interupt conflict. I found that if I disable the internal SATA, that
everything works, but the RAID controller doesn't support the CD-ROM, and
with the internal SATA disabled, I don't have a CD. I've tried the latest
Linksys drivers. Has anyone else seen anything like this?

I've seen similar problems caused when installing pci controlers.
Sometimes cured by a combination of Bios / Firmware updates, on other
occassions the hw manu, in my particular case Adaptec, stated they had
experienced such problems when attached to certain mobo's. They had no cure,
or explanation, for the incompatibility.

Have you tried different slot on the motherboard so as to change the PCI
IRQ that will be used?

The PCI IRQs are "hardwired", (A,B,C and D) and slots will use one of
those as Primary and one as Secondary. The "old" IRQ's are a software
convention now and are not the issue, unless poor driver programing
comes into play. It sound like the that particular PCI card and the SATA
system are not compatible. You could change NIC as you suggest, or add a
PCI-IDE for the CD-ROM.

Did you check for a Linksys Firmware update, and a motherboard bios and sata
controler update?

Yes, the Linksys didn't have a f/w update (new card for them), motherboard
bios and sata bios were at highest level. I considered downgrading the sata
bios, but that is a slippery slope... where do you stop, what other problems
will be caused by putting an older bios in, etc.

It doesn't look like this is a common problem. It most likely is some
compatibility issue. Thank you everyone for your assistance. I'm going to
shelve this problem and install the USB adapters. I really do appreciate
everyone's assistance.
