Links rearranging in IE6

M

Mike J

I'm running XP HE SP2, IE6.

Frequently, when opening IE6, I find that the order of my links has changed.
The ones I'd like to keep in view for quick access on the links bar are
suddenly moved to the list on the drop down menu. Some of the favicons
revert to a 'databox' icon, despite using the Favicon program. All the
toolbars are locked, and the only additional toolbar I have is Google v.
3.0.128.1.

Is there a solution, please?

Thank you for any help.

There are a couple of things you might do.

1. Move the items to where you want them by using the menu Option
Favorites (not the Favorites button) and drag the Links folder items
into the order you want.

2. Check the permissions in the Registry and ensure you don't have
Read Only in:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder\Favorites\Links
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

Thank you for your reply, Alan, but I don't understand exactly where you
mean in your first answer - sorry. You didn't mean 'organise' favorites'?

Could you tell me what the registry entries would read, if I have 'read
only' in the keys you mentioned... how would I change them, and to what?

Thanks again

No, I don't mean 'organize favorites'.
The menu option Favorites is in the menu bar which shows
'File/Edit/View/Favorites/Tools/Help'
When you click the menu option 'Favorites', you move the pointer down
to the Links folder, then across and grab the favorite in the Links
you want to move and move it. A normal drag and drop.

What permissions do you show for those keys?
