There are some unwanted links in the favorites folders
that I can't delete no matter what I do. Should I
uninstall IE and reinstall? Help! these links are really
offensive!

This may be the result of CoolWebSearch trojan/malware:

Download CoolWebSearch destroyer from here:
http://www.merijn.org/files/CWShredder.exe

And download Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com and update it. It eliminates for any other spyware if present in the system.

Usually when that happens it means you've either got a
virus, or some other form of malware. Search for removal
tools

Errr...

My Mother ran into the same problem, 2 folders, gazillion subfolders, thousands of Porn and Porn related links

Not sure if Ad-Aware is able to deal with the more aggressive malware programs out there, also it does not have any way (that I know of) of protecting you from future malware actions. Personally I prefer 'Spybot Search & Destroy'. It's free, can 'immunize' IE (adds a list of deny rules to IE (Tools - Internet Options - Privacy - Web Tools (at bottom) - Edit) and I have yet to get hit by any malware programs since installing it

Just be careful how you use it and keep in mind, no one program is going to protect you completely, but this is a good place to start. And no, I am not affiliated with Spybot in any way, just a satisfied user

Spybot Search & Destroy : http://www.safer-networking.org

Hope this helps
