Hi,

According to your desciption, you can try the following steps to
troubleshoot the issue:

Step 1: Reregister Urlmon.dll
==================================
This problem can occur if the registration of the Urlmon.dll file is
corrupted. To resolve this problem, Please reregister Urlmon.dll. To do
this, please follow these steps:

1. Quit all programs that are running.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. In the Open box, type "regsvr32 urlmon.dll" (without the quotation
marks), and then click OK. The following message appears: DllRegisterServer
in urlmon.dll succeeded.
4. Click OK.

Please test to click a hyperlink again and let me know the result.

If the issue persists, the problem can also be related to the incorrect web
settings. Please try the following steps to reset Web Settings to see
whether the problem persists.

Step 2: Reset Web Settings
=============================
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Go to Tools -> Internet Options.
3. On the Programs tab, please click the "Reset Web Settings" button.
4. Please check the "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is
the default browser" checkbox.
5. Click OK to confirm the change.

Does the problem persist? If so, please try the following steps to edit the
file type.

Step 3: Edit URL protocol file types
============================
1. Double click My Computer; click Tools -> Folder Options -> the File
Types folder
2. Click the File Types column to sort the column list. In the File Types
column, find the URL: HyperText Transfer Protocol item and click the
Advanced button.
3. Select the Open item, click Edit. Use the following steps to check the
settings.
If there is no "Open" in the Actions list, please click New to create one.
In the Action field, type: Open
4. In the Application Used to perform action box:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome

Note: Please confirm your iexplore.exe path. Click Start -> Find -> Files
or Folders, type iexplore.exe. You can replace "C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer\iexplore.exe" by the real path of iexplore.exe on your computer,
such as "A:\B\iexplore.exe" -nohome

5. Select the USE DDE option.
6. In the DDE Message field, type: "%1",,-1,0,,,,
7. In the Application field, type: IExplore
8. Don't type any information in the IExplor DDE Application Not Running
field
9. In the Topic field type: WWW_OpenURL, click OK. After you set the Open
item correctly, click Set Default.
10. Save these settings, and then repeat the process for other URL protocol
file types.
<<URL:File>> Transfer Protocol
<<URL:Gopher>> Protocol
<<URL:Hypertext>> Transfer protocol with Privacy

Thank you for offering some options. However, after trying
all in sequence as listed, followed by a reboot, afterclicking
clicking a link in Outlook 2003, two (2) internet explorer
windows still open.

Any other thoughts?

Titan

Hi Titan,

Thanks for your posting back.

I think something maybe set incorrectly by the 3rd party software in the
folder
options. Let's carry out the steps below to resolve it.

1. Click "Start" => "Run";
2. Type in "control folders" (without quotation mark pair) and click "OK";
3. Click "File Types" tab;
4. Find "(NONE) <URL:HyperText> Transfer Protocol" item;
5. Click "Advanced";
6. Delete all items in the "Actions";
7. Click "New";
8. Fill in "open" (without quotation mark pair) in the "Action" entry box,
and
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" (without quotation mark
pair) in
the "Application used to perform action" entry box.
9. Click "OK" twice;
10. Repeat Step 5~9 for "(NONE) <URL:HyperText> Transfer Protocol with
Privacy" type.

Hope this helps!
